BSBP Reveal!

Without further ado...here are my Bead Soup goods:
First, I loved up on that big-ass gorgeous focal from my partner, Bianca.  It was a raucously colorful piece, so I wasn't sure exactly which way to go.  I spent a few nights pulling beads out of the stash trying to find the perfect combination, but wasn't satisfied with any of them.  They didn't let the focal sing the way I wanted.
So, while sitting and crocheting with some fat yarn, I realized that I could find some fat yarn to go with the bead.  Then, I could figure out how to make a big, dramatic pin to adorn a hat or scarf.  After wandering through Michael's late on a Saturday night trying to find the perfect background for this glasperlen, I picked this subtle blue that picks out the highlights from the cool colors of the bead and accents the warm colors....
I used a big, blunt safety pin that I found in a hardware store bin.  I think the size of the steel pin is perfect for the size of the focal.  It can be used up on the hat or, if I get another Michael's coupon, it could be used on a matching scarf!

Since the BSBP rules say that I have to use both the focal and the clasp (but not necessarily in the same piece), I went a different direction with the pretty silver heart-shaped hook and eye clasp that Bianca chose...yes.  They're earrings!  I turned the clasp into two cute little pendants and made earrings!!
I snipped off the hook and eye from the clasp pieces, filed off the rough spots, and then strung them with some wonderful lampworked glass from Bianca and another of my favorite artists, Heather at HMB Studios.
So, what do you think?  Did I go far enough out of the soup box?  haaaaaaaaaaaaaa

This is the third of three reveals, so there's a nice list of goodness that you can tour around and see today.  Here are links to all of them!

BSBPartiers - Bianca & Jen

Back in July, I got matched up for the Bead Soup Blog Party with lovely glass bead artist Bianca Odenthal.  I wrote about our initial matchup here.

Well, Bianca's from Germany, so I had the extra coolness of getting a package that looks all "foreign" and interesting...
She set me up with a wonderful little box of beauties, including this pretty postcard and a beautiful little box holding her handmade glass beads.
Look at that pretty artwork on the bookmark!  And, I was thrilled to find my own Zydies Glasperlen treasures inside...

Bianca posted a better picture of that big focal bead on her blog here.

Our reveal is this Saturday, the 25th, along with the rest of the BSBPartiers...so, come back and see how I used this big beauty in a bit of a different way.  Just a hint...I've been into knitting and crochet lately, so I had to follow that path a bit...hmmmmm...can you guess what I made?

Bead Soup En Route to Bianca!!!

I'm paired up with Ms. Bianca Odenthal, an amazing artist from Germany.
Her blog is here:   Zydies Glasperlen

We're slated for the 25 August 2012 reveal date, so we'll both see you back then, for sure!

I shopped through my stash and came up with lot of handmade goodies to send her way.  I'm amazed at all the things I have on my worktable that I've actually created myself!

Since I can't reveal the goods until Bianca sees them, I used a really cool iPhone app called WordFoto to create a typographical image of it...I highly recommend it!  I've spent hours playing with it...

Hawkey-Judd-Velasquez Soup!

It's Bead Soup Blog Party Reveal Day!

Party hostess Lori Anderson paired me up with amazing artist Diane Hawkey for this round and it has been a fun week of creating with the soup Diane sent me...especially the beads she made with her own two hands!  I have a few finished pieces to share, created with just a bit of the goodness in my generous helping of soup:

This is a super-long necklace created with a bunch of different types of chain to create an asymmetric design so that I could feature the long ceramic focal bead (down below on the right) in a vertical arrangement.  I pulled together some of the other Diane faceted ceramic nuggets (on the left in turquoise and brown) along with some of my stashed Barbara fire-painted filigree rounds and combined them all with little shiny gold nuggets that give the finished piece just the right amount of sparkle.  I've already worn this out and about a few times and have gotten tons of compliments.
Here's another shot and you can see the organic designs in the Diane focal as well as the coordinating bracelet and earrings that came together out of the mixed chain inspiration.
I have to throw out a little credit to Erin Prais-Hintz for the inspiration I got from her design in the September issue of Bead Trends.  I loved the selection of chain links she used to feature one of her handmade focals and it totally jumpstarted this design.
Since I had all my Barbara beads out next to my new Diane nuggets, I did another necklace...a little shorter and more casual but just as fun.
I used some of the extra Czech glass to create a linked-up bracelet and some earrings to go together with everything.  I don't normally do links, especially simple links, but it worked out wonderfully and even made it through my wear test.  :)

There are a total of 369 guests at this party, so have fun seeing some new goods, checking out the work of old friends, and getting some novel inspiration!
