Blog Hop: Challenge of Color

I wrote a big long post last night that was all scheduled for this morning, but now here I am retyping the  thing because it has somehow disappeared.  Lovely.  So, you're going to get the highlights:
~ This is the 2nd Annual Challenge of Color Blog Hop.
~ Erin Prais-Hintz of Tesori Trovati is a prolific inspirer and is our host for today.
~ Erin invited participants to choose from 12 color families.
~ I picked pink, even though that's not really a "winter" color and I wasn't sure what would happen.
~ Erin chose personalized palettes designed by Jessica Colaluca of Design Seeds.
~ My palette, called "sweetened tints," is based on a cupcake.  Awesome.
~ I love the recycled sari ribbon from Darn Good Yarn.
~ I just happened to have a brand new (can you have a "brand new" thing of something recycled?) skein of ribbon called "Fall Nightfall" that has all my cupcake colors.
~ I am recently obsessed with crocheting little shapes with a big hook.
~ After making a pile of little shapes out of ribbon, I picked one to create a pin.
~ The ribbon bits + steel wire + random pearls = pretty bit for atop a scarf or coat.
~ The hardest part of the whole thing was the actual pin piece; had to make it big enough to hold up the "flower" and smooth enough to keep from ripping up whatever it's pinned onto.
~ I wanted to display it on a cool and creamy (buttercreamy, specifically) scarf but didn't get it done; hence, the pictures are all posed on a half completed scarf and it's accompanying yarn.
~ If I didn't have to go put on camouflage to go to the office, I'd wear this right now!
~ Because I think the ribbon is so awesome, I want to give some away from my stash, a few yards of each of my faves.
~~ (This is a sub-bullet...this is how we write at work! haaaaaaaaaa)  Leave a comment and tell me something funny and I'll draw from the comments on Friday to pick a winner.
~ There are a ton of other great inspired bloggers out there...go see their goods:

18 Tari Kahrs ~ Orange ~ Citrus Tones
23 Amy Severino ~ Orange ~ Winged Tones
28 Linda Landig ~ Green ~ Cacti Dark
35 CJ Bauschka ~ Teal ~ Teal Air
41 Jenni Connolly ~ Gray ~ Paw Tones

~ Thank you to Erin for hosting, Jessica for coming up with amazing palettes, my blog friends for being a piece of the party, and my blog readers/commenters for coming along for the ride!

  7. Can you hear the sigh? You know I was totally thrilled to come see your creation. I so adore that pin, and I'm so NOT a pin person! Or a flowery person! I've also gotten back into crocheting, and have trails of yarn following me like toilet paper stuck on your shoe! :)

  10. Drats on the long post, Miss Jen! I am having my own love-hate relationship with technology and specifically my computer right now. Luckily I got this back last Friday just in time to put this whole thing together.
You know what is funny? I am picturing you with your uniform on but with this pretty pink pin tucked inside where no one can see it!

Thank you for persisting despite the woes of the computer, and I actually love your post. You know I could never work where you do because I can't 'talk' like that! ;-)
I am so glad you played along with me!
    Enjoy the day, Miss Jen

  14. Wow! You took a somewhat delicate palette and punched it up to demonstrate the power of plum. Plum yummy!

  15. Jen, the pin is absolutely lovely! The color of the silk is so lucious, and I love the beaded center. How nice to see something so different.

I have never used sari silk and would love to win your giveaway.

I can't think of anything funny at this moment, give me a bottle of wine and give me a few minutes and I might be able to come up with something! Bawhahahahaha!!

  21. This pin was fabulous enough to make me forget all about the inspiration cupcake and how sorry I was all the leftover Thanksgiving desserts are gone...Hmmm, a delicious pin as a diet support - what a great idea!

  22. What a great piece. I love the pin. And the sari ribbon is gorgeous. I love ribbon (I've just started using some) and would love to win your giveaway.
As for something funny, this a.m. my hubby told me after I fell again (I'm a real klutz) that I really needed to stop doing that. I looked at him and asked, "so, do you think I got up this a.m and thought to myself 'I think I'll fall down today?'" He seems to think I can just tell myself to stop falling down and it will happen. He should know by now that's not going to happen. (We've been married 34 years and I've been a klutz all my life) LOL (No, I wasn't hurt, just irritated again at myself) :)

  23. I don't know about anything funny but I did want to say how much I love the pin. And I don't even care for pins but the richness is addicting.

  27. So far, your piece wins for the unexpected! A brooch/pin/whatever ya want to call it, LOVE it. It is gorgeous. Love your palette and am loving your piece to pieces ;).
Tell you something funny... how about one of my daughter's favorite jokes? (she just turned four, be warned)
Why did the chicken cross the road?
    Why?
To pay for bird food! (and then she laughs hysterically... ok it's way more entertaining when she tells it and giggles like a goofy cherub).
Regardless... awesome piece! Thanks for sharing :)

  28. I really love the pin you created. I love sari ribbon, but never thought to use it in the way you did, very clever.

  29. I love that you followed the when the pale palette said, "Come to the Dark Side". I swear, all we have to do is put the beads (ribbons, supplies) in a bowl and let them decide what they want to be -- and then just help them out.

  30. I just love this one! That ribbon is gorgeous (have to put that colour on my wishlist) and the flower is lovely. I really like the wired flower centre too. Fab job!

  32. Wow! I never expected someone to come up with a pin, and not just any pin, but one that totally is AWESOME! Love it! Would be happy to give it a super home should I win. Something funny...I saw a cat on Halloween wearing a costume that made it look like a giant soft shelled taco. Guess you had to be there, but it was hilarious.

  33. Great pin and creative use of the sari ribbon.

  34. This is so romantic and quite cool. I think your color choices worked out quite well. It is a shame that you weren't able to wear it, but hopefully you've remedied that since then!!

  35. that is gorgeous! Love that color!

  36. Oh Jen, that's just amazingly gorgeous! I love how you are always trying new things! Something funny - why don't you make one in camo colors then you COULD wear one every day!
